Where have all the manners gone?

Ok, my last post may have been a bit edgy.
Sorry folks, blame it on the heat.
I will try to be more mannerly today.
Southern manners.
These used to be something no Southerner would leave the house without.
We were known for our "yes maam's and yes sirs"
Those are not demeaning tones
they are sounds of respect.
In recent days I have heard in public:
A man yell at his wife and they were inside a car.
A young woman honk the horn and yell at her elderly mother to get in the car.
Two young women with raised voices in a restaurant
almost getting in a fist fight.
The "f" word. Everywhere.
Boy, am I tired of that one.
You hear it out of both men and womens mouths.
Brother.
In the street we (and little children) are hearing words spoken with no shame.
Words that only once a sailor would use .
Appalling.
So, why manners?
Manners are a sign of showing respect to another human being.
and certainly should be shown to our immediate family.
Yes, we blow it.
We are human and this just happen.
The mannerly thing is to apologize
and the offender grants forgiveness and we move on.
Manners are also rules of civility in our society.
Knowing how to dress properly and use the correct fork is mannerly as well.
And I have certainly had to use proper manners in so many business situations.
Manners are not dead in those settings.
I used to make the children and nieces and nephews practice manners at the dinner table.
My question to them, "How would we eat our bread or cut our meat if we were at the White House?"
The laughed and played along.
But, I bet they haven't forgotten those lessons.
And no, no one in our family has made it to the White House,
yet.
My suggestion, practice manners.
In our homes.
What we practice at home travels out into the marketplace.
We should respect others because they are made in the image of God.
Our old Southern ways should not be lost.
Manners are just as timely as ever.
If you use them
you will stand out from among the crowd.
