Heap burning coals baby!
I was challenged by my dear sister-in-law to write a post about this concept and Bible verse,
so here goes.
If you have never been a teenage girl in high-school
you may not understand.
My mother sooo often quoted this verse to me amidst the angst of being a high-school girl.
Amid the trials and tribulations of relationships with teenage girls it was a good verse to live by.
Proverbs 25:21-22;
"If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, And the Lord will reward you."
What does this mean practically as a teenage girl in the south?
I means being so nice that sugah drips out of your mouth.
Do something nice for your enemy. Drive them to school
give them your class notes, get them dessert at lunch, give up your seat on the bus...
Do not give them any reason to not think that you are the most kind and most caring person on the earth.
They will be shocked and yet captivated. You have disarmed any harm they may have aimed at you with your total charm.
This works very well in the adult and business world as well.
Someone takes your due credit, send them some flowers.
Someone takes your idea.
Take them to lunch.
The harder they try to get under your skin
the nicer you behave. Repay evil with good. Works every time.
I once had the opportunity to possibly sue someone over a stolen idea.
I did not.
The Lord will deal with that person.
I (and He) knows who had the idea and who did the work.
And if you forgive them and turn them over to the Lord then you are free, free indeed.
Another way to put it, never let them see you sweat. You be nice.
You hold your head high.
and they will not know what to do.
Bite your tongue and turn the other cheek.
If they act badly...then shame on them, don't let it be shame on you.
Another gem from my mother;
"You do the right thing even if others do the wrong thing."
So right and so true mother.
So repay evil with kindness above all else.
The Lord will reward you.
